Just this year, your generosity has covered scholarships for a dozen Providence St. Mary Medical Center caregivers, providing them the opportunity to further their education in health care roles.
For 2024, a scholarship committee established by Providence St. Mary Foundation selected ten caregivers pursuing their associate degree or other prerequisites and two additional caregivers completing post-graduate studies.
Former scholarship recipient, Graycen Duffy, ARNP, has benefited from your generosity more than once in the past as she completed additional schooling to become an advanced registered nurse practitioner. She first joined Providence St. Mary as a medical assistant more than a decade ago.
While teaching yoga, questions from students inspired Graycen to go into family practice and she wanted to continue her education. But the road wasn’t always easy, as Graycen struggled financially in her 20s after completing her undergraduate studies and didn’t get accepted into the ARNP program on the first try.
She persisted and received her degree from Gonzaga University at age 39. Graycen said she wouldn’t have been able to complete her advanced schooling without the generosity of donors who funded the scholarships she received.
“I really like what I do, it’s a blend of family medicine and urgent care,” said Graycen. “I’m just so grateful; Providence St. Mary is the only place I’ve ever worked.”
Funding for this year’s scholarships was also made possible with support from Columbia REA, Incyte Diagnostics, Providence St. Mary Service League and fellow caregivers supporting one another on their career development.
Thank you for investing in the future of St. Mary’s caregivers.
