Inaugural Women for Wellness Event a Huge Success

More than 60 women gathered at the inaugural Women for Wellness event in the Founders Courtyard Garden at Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center on Thursday, May 19. During a celebratory lunch, women discussed topics around wellness, and raised $87,000 for the Queen’s Cancer Wellness Program.

“We designed Women for Wellness, to inspire more women to participate, network and support a worthy cause,” said Providence Queen of the Valley Foundation President / CEO Rachael Poer.

The Cancer Wellness Program was previously supported through the success of Reach for the Stars, a 30-year fundraiser that featured cancer patients and survivors walking the runway in a fashion show. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the event has been postponed.

The Queen’s Foundation pivoted and created this new giving club in 2022, with 100% of the ticket sales set to benefit the Cancer Wellness Program for another year. With a physician referral, the 12-week program is available at no charge to all cancer patients who reside in Napa Valley, regardless of where they are treated, and for all patients treated at the Queen, regardless of where they live.

“About $87,000 was raised today, and all the money will go towards helping cancer patients through their healing and transformational journey during treatment. We have been told that these services are a game changer while patients are going through a dark time," stated Poer.

Wearing a striking hat, Amanda Holthouse, D.O., a Providence Medical Group ObGyn, acknowledged the many roles women play simultaneously—boss, friend, partner, mother, grandmother, auntie, caretaker—and celebrated how women are master multi-taskers who get things done.

A special thank you to event co-chairs Myrna Andrews, Cindi Dwyer and Kim Streblow. In future years, Women for Wellness will benefit other programs at Queen of the Valley, with the opportunity for the women who give to designate the beneficiary through a majority vote.
