Caring for Children
at The Children's Hospital at Providence.
Children are Alaska's Future!
The goal of The Children's Hospital at Providence is to help them reach their healthiest and full potential. And we know you share this desire with us.
As the only children's hospital in Alaska, we have a big responsibility together to care for kids from all over the state. Whether making sure a mom and new baby sister in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit stay connected via video with Dad and big brother in Kodiak or helping a 4th grader from Nome stay caught up with school assignments while receiving cancer treatment, your philanthropy helps our amazing team support entire families of pediatric patients during their most challenging and vulnerable times in life.

Our Impact
Thanks to generous donors to Providence Alaska Foundation the health of our community has been impacted greatly.
Alaska CARES
In 2020, Alaska Child Advocacy Response and Evaluation Services (CARES), a team of professionals specifically trained in abuse response, helped 690 children heal and thrive after experiencing the trauma from abuse. Your gift to Alaska CARES supports their innovative model of multi-disciplinary community partners housed in one place. With your support, Alaska kids can grow to reach their healthiest and full potential.
Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
When babies arrive early, our NICU is ready to help. That could mean a transport team is ready to care for a baby delivered outside of our hospital, or embracing an entire family to keep connected to their newest family addition while life continues as home. Our state-of-the-art NICU space and team provides compassionate care to these tiniest Alaskans ensuring they grow to reach their healthiest and full potential.
Adolescent Mental Health
The Behavioral Health team guides Alaska's pre-teens and teens through some of the more challenging times of life. Whether responding during a mental health crisis, providing residential care treatment, scheduling counseling, or educating community on mental health response, adolescents find support as they make the big leap from kids to adults reaching their healthiest and full potential.
Cure Kids Cancer
Kids need kid space whether at home or while receiving treatment for cancer. The Providence Cancer Center now has pediatric designated space for patients and their families to play, interact, relax, and just be kids without having to be confined to an adult space.
Family Support Services
Can you imagine having a child in the hospital while trying to keep your family functioning? A Child Life Specialist can help provide that added level of care for families beyond a medical diagnosis. As one mom wrote, "Words cannot express how much gratitude I have for you all. You may have had only one of my children as a patient, but you welcomed the rest of my family with open hearts and open arms."
Children's Miracle Network (CMN)
Did you know? The Children's Hospital at Providence partners with Children's Miracle Network to raise funds! When you shop at our corporate partners like Costco, Walmart, IHOP, or anywhere you see the recognizable yellow and white CMN paper balloons hanging on the wall, you know your gift stays right here in Alaska help our kids grow to reach their healthiest and full potential.

NICView Keeps Baby Delilah and Dad Connected

Delilah made her entrance into this world 10 weeks premature and weighing just 3 lbs 6 oz. She was born at the military hospital on Joint Base Elmendorf/Richardson but needed to be transported to The Children’s Hospital at Providence’s Newborn Intensive Care Unit immediately. Providence’s NICU transport team was on hand for the birth and had Delilah moved within the hour.
Delilah’s first feeding was with donor milk because her mom Traci was not able to join her at Providence until she was discharged eight hours later. As soon as Traci arrived the nurses and respiratory therapist were able to assist her with kangaroo care, a skin-to-skin contact technique which helps premature babies develop and bond with their parents. During her early days in the NICU Delilah needed respiratory and feeding support, which meant she had a feeding tube, was connected to a ventilator and spent most of her time in a neonatal incubator.
